What every Ferrari owner learns after the first invoice — and how EU right-to-repair law keeps you free to buy genuine Scuderia parts from third parties.

A Ferrari service invoice is famous for its parts markup. The parts themselves — Mann filters, Brembo brake pads, NGK spark plugs, Gates belts, Shell Helix fluids — come from the same suppliers used across the industry. What you pay extra for at the dealer is the badge, not the engineering. Ferrari North Europe’s 2023 published labour rate is €215/hour before parts, and parts carry a 40–60% mark-up over the tier-one supplier list.

EU Regulation 461/2010 (the Motor Vehicle Block Exemption) explicitly protects your right to use matching-quality parts and to have the car serviced outside the official network without losing the manufacturer warranty. Once the factory warranty expires, you can source genuine Scuderia parts directly from stock in Italy or from established independent specialists and hand them to any competent independent workshop.

Do not compromise on the following. Brake system — always genuine Brembo or the Ferrari-specified pad compound. Cooling — the exact water pump, thermostat and hoses; a Ferrari V8 or V12 runs on tight thermal margins. High-pressure fuel — GDI components on the F154 and F140 engines are calibrated to the injector map. Engine electronics and any part with a serial number that pairs to the ECU.

Where it is safe to save 40–70% versus dealer prices: consumables (oil, oil filter, air filter, cabin filter, wipers, bulbs), body clips, interior trim fasteners, brake fluid, coolant. The tier-one aftermarket item is frequently the exact same part without the prancing horse box.

Two practical tips from independent Ferrari specialists. First, keep every parts receipt with the OEM code visible — Ferrari Classiche (the factory certification programme) accepts documented genuine parts from any source. Second, run a Ferrari-specific diagnostic tool (Leonardo or SD3) after any electronic part swap; a €300 clone reads codes but cannot re-map or reset service counters correctly on cars from 458 onwards.
